Jonah L. Larrick Student Center Addition/Renovation
Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia
VCU chose to expand an existing student center on its MCV Campus in order to update food service and recreational offerings and enhance the amenities offered by the existing center. The design features over 20,000 square feet of new dining space as well as 7,900 square feet dedicated to student services. The modernized center offers campus visitors a complete range of prepared and packaged food for dining in or takeout, and attracts students and patrons from nearby housing, a new parking garage, and the Phillip Morris research facility. The center also includes a renovated gymnasium with a new fitness control desk, modernized fitness space, and women’s and men’s locker rooms. This project earned LEED Silver, and notable sustainable design features include low-emitting materials, carbon dioxide monitoring, and rain gardens.
