Buckingham Middle School
Buckingham County Public Schools, Buckingham, Virginia
Buckingham Middle School replaced an existing middle school and is designed to accommodate 650 students with the capability to expand up to 850 students in the future. The building is organized around a central spine corridor, which serves all of the academic program spaces. The spine begins at the “public” spaces on the north of the building. The main entry is located between the gymnasium/commons and the academic wings, which allows the academic portions to be easily closed off for after-hours events. One of the goals for this project was to enhance the amenities available to the Buckingham County community as a whole and to include features that can be shared by the high school and middle school. These shared features include competition baseball and softball fields, as well as a large gymnasium.
