Burgess Mill Station

Howard County Housing Commission
Ellicott City, Maryland

While focusing on sustainability, affordability, universal accessibility, and community, Moseley Architects provided complete design services for this 200-unit housing community. The development consists of a mix of market-rate and affordable housing in garden-style apartments, townhouses, and multifamily manor houses. Issues such as carbon footprint, energy data monitoring, nutritional equity, connectivity, and public transportation opportunities were evaluated during the design process. Development goals required a pedestrian-oriented, environmentally sustainable, and interconnected community immediately adjacent to historic downtown Ellicott City. Extreme grades coupled with three separate land parcels divided by heavily-traveled roadways were solved through a universal circulation system. Previously a failed affordable housing project, Burgess Mill Station is now a thriving mixed-income community.
