Located approximately 40 miles east of Morgantown, West Virginia, the Hazelton Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) lies on a 44.04 hectacre site.
The project was procured through the design-build method by Hensel Phelps Construction Company of Chantilly, Virginia and the architectural team of Alpha Associates of Morgantown, West Virginia and Moseley Architects of Richmond, Virginia.
The new medium-security facility is comprised of a complex of buildings that total over 500,000 square feet, designed to support 1,152 inmates. The facility will include administration, visitation, health services, general and special housing, recreation, food service, maintenance, laundry, commissary, UNICOR, vocational training, and education buildings and services. As required by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, this project is pursuing certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEEDŽ) Green Building rating system.
