Tom Liebel Elected AIA Strategic Council Moderator

American Institute of Architects delegates unanimously elected Moseley Architects’ Multifamily Housing Principal Tom Liebel as moderator of the AIA Strategic Council for the 2020-2021 term.

The council advances the profession by informing the goals, objectives and strategies of the AIA. As moderator, Liebel will facilitate council assemblies and serve as the main connection point between the council and the board of directors. He will also ensure deliberations at assemblies are thorough, fair, and efficient.

Since joining AIA in 1993, Liebel has been recognized by his peers for his contributions to the profession. He earned the AIA’s highest membership honor when he was elevated to the College of Fellows in 2011. AIA Baltimore named him Community Architect of the Year in 2013.

Based in Baltimore, Liebel has practiced architecture for nearly three decades. As an author, critic and mentor, Liebel lectures worldwide on sustainable design and historic preservation. His ongoing research explores the relationship between sustainability, preservation and urban design, with an emphasis in utilizing urban adaptive-use projects to promote neighborhood revitalization and civic engagement.

“I am honored to have been elected as next year’s moderator for the AIA’s Strategic Council. I look forward to helping lead the council’s efforts and deliberations to advance the profession of architecture, and the society we serve.”
