Smyth County Courthouse

Smyth County
Marion, Virginia

We began this project with a study of the nearly 100-year-old facility’s deficiencies, including insufficient space, aging infrastructure, the absence of holding cells, and other security features. The study included an analysis of current and future space needs, a facility investigation, and the development of alternatives for renovation and expansion. The resulting project consists of a three-story, 43,430-square-foot addition and full renovation of the 40,170-square-foot existing facility.

The facility houses the circuit court and clerk; general district court and clerk; juvenile and domestic relations court and clerk; juvenile and domestic relations court services; commonwealth’s attorney; commissioner of the revenue; treasurer; sheriff’s court security; information systems; and maintenance.
