Farmville Town Hall
Town of Farmville, Farmville, Virginia
When a building in a prominent Main Street location was destroyed by fire, the town saw it as an opportunity to construct a badly needed new municipal building and create an anchor for planned improvements and revitalization efforts. The three-story building houses facilities for town council and other public meetings and features space for the town manager and staff, treasurer, and police department. By taking advantage of site topography, public entries are provided on two separate levels, responding to the need for access from Main Street as well as the from the municipal parking at the rear of the building. A landscaped walkway serves as a pedestrian connector from the parking lot to Main Street. A tower marks the main entrance of the building and signifies its civic purpose. The town council chambers’ large windows facing Main Street symbolize the importance of transparency in government.
