Union Mill and Artifact Coffee

Union Mill, located in the Hampden Historic District, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its association with the industrial history of the Jones Falls watershed. The 86,000-square-foot mixed-use redevelopment includes: 54 residential units specifically targeted at teachers new to Baltimore, including Teach for America participants, 25,000 square feet of office space designed for nonprofit organizations, and exceptional amenities, including a lush half-acre central courtyard.

Artifact Coffee is a 2,000-square-foot cafe located in the boiler house of Union Mill. The design emphasizes the historic structure of the space, including stone walls and timber decking, beams, and trusses. The floor is stained concrete and distressed hardwood. The café is a popular gathering place that optimizes the number of customers who can be served with the use of large gathering tables as well as fold down bar space for laptops.
