The project was a major addition and renovation of Glenarden Woods Elementary in which approximately 16,048 square feet was demolished, 33,752 square feet was renovated, and 40,110 square feet of new construction was added. Now fully ADA compliant, the school incorporates 21st century learning strategies offering adaptable classrooms with the flexibility for accommodating various size groups and presentation formats. The facility earned LEED Gold in 2012. Energy efficiency has been emphasized through envelope design, efficient systems and equipment, and the introduction of daylight throughout the core learning spaces.

U. S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos recognized Glenarden Woods Elementary School with the National Blue Ribbon for overall academic excellence or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. It was one of only eight schools in Maryland to receive this award in 2019.
