New Hanover County Division of Juvenile Justice Court Facility

New Hanover County
Wilmington, North Carolina

Moseley Architects assisted New Hanover County in developing options for its juvenile court facility as a result of the Juvenile Justice Reinvestment Act that became effective in 2019. We initially performed a needs assessment and feasibility study of the juvenile services building, which provided the county with the most viable options of either renovating and expanding the facility or building a new dedicated juvenile courts facility. Ultimately, the county elected to demolish the building and construct a new dedicated juvenile justice facility on the site. The new three-story facility includes spaces for two dedicated juvenile courtrooms, clerk of court spaces, community justice services spaces, juvenile justice spaces, inmate holding, and district attorney spaces, as well as spaces for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety court counselors.
