Smith-Wagner Building

Chesterfield County
Chesterfield, Virginia

The Smith-Wagner Building houses the county’s health and social services departments. Originally constructed in the mid-1980s, the population as well as the size and complexity of the human services needs in the county have grown substantially. To meet these needs, Moseley Architects designed a full renovation and an addition to the facility.

Services included the development of a phasing plan to allow both departments to remain operational. A comprehensive inventory of existing furniture and design for its reuse in addition to new furnishings was also provided. Additional updates to the building included replacing the HVAC systems, roof, and windows. Prior to the renovation and expansion of the facility, Moseley Architects provided advanced renovation construction documents to replace the building’s HVAC system, roof, and exterior windows to correct indoor air quality issues.
