Transylvania County’s Public Safety Facility houses the sheriff’s office, E-911 emergency communications, an emergency operations center, and a 120-bed jail. Sheriff’s functions include the detective and patrol divisions as well as jail administration. A vehicle sallyport, intake and booking areas, and magistrate’s offices are also provided. Each jail housing pod has video visitation facilities and an outdoor exercise space. All housing pods are controlled and monitored from a central control room. Auxiliary spaces include a training room.

Earning LEED Silver certification, this was the first LEED project in North Carolina.
