Nestled among the live oaks in Mt. Pleasant, Whitesides Elementary School provides learning spaces for students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. The main classroom wing is a two-story structure, housing the first through fifth grades. The pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms occupy a one-story structure designed with access to fenced exterior play areas.

The exterior spaces were designed as extensions of the interior learning environment. An outdoor learning classroom “patio” links the media center and the art classroom. The school’s design reflects the historic community in its proportion, detailing, and material while highlighting the natural beauty of the site and its surroundings.
