Kensington of Falls Church

Kensington Senior Development
Falls Church, Virginia

An assisted living and memory care project, the Kensington is located on the corner of a major thoroughfare in the City of Falls Church. An exterior façade of cast stone, brick, and cementitious siding promote a residential feel while blending with the urban surroundings. At the street level, the facility includes two retail storefront spaces that offer an art gallery and event space. A 16,000-square-foot parking garage offers ample parking as well as an elevated plaza, which provides a space for socializing and outdoor entertainment.

The luxury facility offers more than 100,000 square feet, including a two-level memory care neighborhood dedicated to residents suffering from memory impairments. This approach locates dining, activity, kitchen, living, and outdoor spaces with security components such as a wander management system, surveillance, access control, as well as panic button and notification systems to maintain secure environments for residents. Specially designed life skill installations are also provided to stimulate memory and foster normal patterns of residential behavior. Nurses stations, therapeutic tubs, physical therapy, and exercise amenities round out the neighborhood’s specialized spaces.

Assisted living residents reside in apartment-style units with private bedrooms, baths, and kitchenettes. Common spaces include dining areas, serveries, gourmet kitchen, cafes, piano lounge and game room, library, hair salon, and multiple outdoor terraces.

The building earned LEED Silver certification in 2017.
