Glen Allen High School
Henrico County Public Schools

Henrico County Public Schools
Glen Allen, Virginia

With a student capacity of approximately 1,850 students, the new high school features a strong delineation between public/shared functions and the academic houses through the use of a tall, open ‘spine’ featuring clerestory windows allowing natural light to flood the areas below. The clerestory windows are a recurring design theme in the project occurring over both student commons areas, the main gymnasium and the media center. Indigenous brick colors and light metal panels form the main material palette and these materials appear in the main interior public areas creating a visual link between the exterior and interior materials. Warm wood panels and cast stone accents provide clear entrances to the main interior public spaces such as the auditorium, gymnasium, art gallery and conference/meeting space.

The facility earned LEED Gold certification.
