Bow Creek Recreation Center Wins HRACRE Design Awards

During the annual Hampton Roads Association for Commercial Real Estate (HRACRE) Design Awards, Moseley Architects won two merit awards for Bow Creek Recreation Center.

“It was an honor to attend this event alongside Hastings & Chivetta and Tom Nicholas from the City of Virginia Beach, and it was exciting to be recognized for such a rewarding project that will serve the Virginia Beach community for years to come.”

Jeff Hyder, Managing Principal

The project won in the following categories: “Best Institutional/Public Building” and “Best Sustainable Project.”

About the Project
Together with the City of Virginia Beach and Hastings & Chivetta, Moseley Architects designed a new, modern, 67,743-square-foot facility to replace the 50-year center. The design includes a modern facade anchored by a concrete masonry base. The angled roof plane rises and falls over the structure in direct contrast with the level landscape, while anchored metal panels offer a colorful contrast to the organic masonry and large spans of glass provide transparency into major activity components and simplify visitor orientation and wayfinding. Notable project features include lap and leisure pools; activity areas for seniors, youth, and children; locker rooms; gymnasia; an aerobics and dance studio; and a fitness center.
