Holden Hall

Virginia Tech
Blacksburg, Virginia

Originally constructed in 1940, the renewal and expansion of Holden Hall accommodates the growth of the Mining and Minerals Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering programs and transformed the building into a centerpiece for learning and research. The renovated complex preserves the historically significant structure while providing innovative classrooms and labs for experiential learning and research. These spaces include a high-bay simulated mine; a materials active design and exploration lab; a chemical processes laboratory; and an advanced instrumental analysis suite. Informal spaces support collaboration and foster a sense of community between departments that had been in separate facilities for years.
