Heatherwood is a senior living community originally built in 1987 that offers both independent and assisted living plans. This renovation eliminated the heavy and dark interior finishes from the main first floor entrance spaces, adjoining public spaces, and corridors. Additionally, the main dining room was not large enough to accommodate the existing population, so the multipurpose space and private dining room off the main dining room were replaced by a full bistro and bar with café dining. Goals for the main dining room design included increasing natural light, highlighting the vaulted ceiling’s beam and lintel features, increasing dining capacity, and giving staff better monitoring capabilities. A cafeteria-style serving line was replaced with a demonstration station to foster an interactive and educational dining experience. Seating was upgraded with varying shape tables and a wall of banquet seating was introduced to surround the demonstration area.
