Moseley Architects’ Charlotte Office Earns WELL Certification

Gathering space in Moseley Architects' Charlotte office
Moseley Architects’ Charlotte Office

The Moseley Architects’ Charlotte Office has earned WELL Certification at the Gold level through the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). The prestigious distinction was awarded through IWBI’s WELL v2, the latest version of the WELL Building Standard. WELL is the premier building standard to focus on enhancing people’s health and well-being through the buildings where we live, work and play.

Created through seven years of rigorous research and development working with leading physicians, scientists, and industry professionals, the WELL Building Standard is a performance-based certification system that marries best practices in design and construction with evidence-based scientific research. The Charlotte office earned the distinction based on ten categories of building performance: air, water, nourishment, light, movement, thermal comfort, sound, materials, mind and community. IWBI is the leading authority for transforming health and well-being with its people-first approach to buildings, organizations and communities.

Project features that helped the Charlotte office achieve its Gold rating include:

  • Location in a LEED-certified base building
  • Location within walking distance of several public amenities, which encourages physical exercise and reduces reliance on automobiles
  • Low-emitting flooring systems, composite wood, paint, and adhesives that directly affect the air quality of the space
  • Large windows that allow abundant daylight to illuminate over 70% of regularly occupied areas
  • Water-efficient plumbing fixtures that reduce potable water use by 50% compared to baseline use, saving roughly 4,600 gallons each year
  • 97% of equipment that is ENERGY STAR-rated

Moseley Architects’ Charlotte team relocated to this workspace in South Charlotte’s Waverly development in 2019. In recent years, the Charlotte office has expanded its in-house engineering capabilities and construction administration staff, creating a need for additional space. At 10,400 square feet, the workspace accommodates more than 50 people in an open and collaborative environment.

WELL is grounded in evidence-based research that explores the connection between the buildings where we spend approximately 90 percent of our time, and the health and well-being impacts on the people inside these buildings. To be awarded WELL Certification by IWBI, Moseley Architects’ Charlotte office underwent rigorous testing and a final evaluation carried out by third parties to ensure it met all WELL Certified Gold performance requirements.
