Design Kicks Off for Virginia Tech’s New Business Building

Moseley Architects and Robert A.M. Stern Architects (RAMSA), in partnership with Virginia Tech (VT), have begun the design process for the second of two academic buildings in the Global Business and Analytics Complex (GBAC). The 104,000-square-foot facility will provide updated, state-of-the-art academic space to accommodate the university’s growing College of Business, previously located in Pamplin Hall. Its goal is to further facilitate instruction that equips students to nurture innovation, receive experiential training via in-house food service amenities, understand best business practices and drive societal impact.

Notable design features will include:

  • Administrative offices
  • Common spaces
  • Hokie Lab
  • Café

The new business building will also function as a connector to the nearly complete Data and Decision Sciences Building, another collaborative effort between Moseley Architects, RAMSA, and VT. This connection will include shared classrooms and allow for increased cross-disciplinary interactions between departments housed within the complex. This heightened level of interconnectivity will encourage collaboration, expand research opportunities and set the tone for a more cohesive academic experience.

Together, the Data and Decision Sciences Building and new business building will form the academic portion of the new 220,000-square-foot GBAC, which also comprises two living-learning residential communities. The project is among the top priorities in the university’s Boundless Impact campaign that aims to raise $1.872 billion in funds by 2027.

Moseley Architects has partnered with VT on 24 projects over the past 18 years. This breadth of experience envelops several notable recent projects, including the renovation of Holden Hall and O’Shaughnessy Hall, completed in 2022 and 2018, respectively.
